Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (Oct. 1, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi recorded his fifth top five of the season during Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions competition to cap a doubleheader at Eldora Speedway last weekend.

Scelzi and car owner Bernie Stuebgen opened the two-day show on Friday by qualifying ninth quickest in their group during the BeFour the Crowns Showdown with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. Scelzi followed a seventh-place finish in a heat race by winning the Last Chance Showdown to garner a transfer into the back of the main event.

“We didn’t qualify very well and with the World of Outlaws format you are buried if you don’t qualify well,” he said. “It had rained a lot earlier that night so we decided after winning the B Main that we didn’t want to risk tearing up our equipment on a fast track that didn’t allow much passing. We pulled in a couple of laps into the main event.”

Saturday was a much better night at the half-mile oval for Scelzi, who set quick time out of the 42 drivers in All Stars qualifying. He then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race before maneuvering from fourth to second during a dash.

“We qualified good and made it through our heat race,” he said. “Then we picked up two spots in a dash to set ourselves up well for the main event.”

Scelzi started the 4-Crown Nationals feature on the inside of the second row.

“The track was really good with a top, bottom and middle,” he said. “It was a standard Eldora. I was up to second for a minute and thought we could challenge Cory (Eliason), but (Aaron) Reutzel drove by both of us.”

Scelzi ran third throughout most of the race to post his fifth top five of the year with the All Stars and 20th overall.

Sunday’s FAST Series event at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., rained out.

Scelzi and Stuebgen will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., during the Champion Racing Oil National Open with the World of Outlaws. Scelzi earned his first career World of Outlaws feature win during the event last year.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend,” he said. “To win a National Open prelim and have good finishes almost every time we’ve raced there gives me a lot of confidence. That track suits my driving style and whatever package we have in the race car seems to work there. I’m comfortable there, too, which is key.”
