Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (June 4, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi continued his consistency inside the Roth Motorsports ride by earning a pair of top-five results last weekend.

Scelzi placed third on Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., before he capped the weekend by garnering a fifth-place finish on Saturday during a King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series show at Petaluma Speedway.

The weekend began with Scelzi qualifying eighth quickest at Ocean Speedway, where a heat race win locked him into the dash. Scelzi then advanced from fifth to third place in the dash to line up on the inside of the second row for the A Main.

“Going into the feature I felt like we were so much better than the field and we just missed it,” he said. “We were too free. I got my wing all the way back in three laps. At one point I passed for second, but a yellow came out. I was disappointed because leading up to that feature I thought we had a good shot to win.”

Scelzi headed to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday. He timed in seventh quickest in qualifying. A runner-up result in a heat race locked him into the ninth starting position for the main event.

“The track was different than what it usually is,” he said. “It was super dry. We didn’t qualify very good, but we made some changes and ran second in the heat. We made more changes for the main event. On Lap 1 of the feature we had the left rear shock break. At that point it was just hang on. It makes it almost impossible to drive. The left rear wants to come off the ground when you go into the corner. It’s really tough and uncomfortable to drive, but we did the best we could given the circumstances.”

Scelzi hustled to a fifth-place finish, which was his eighth top five of the season. He ranks fifth in the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series championship standings – only 20 points out of the lead.

Scelzi will return to action in his family owned sprint car on Tuesday at Fairbury Speedway in Fairbury, Ill., during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. He will then return to California to drive for Roth Motorsports on Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. Saturday’s event is sanctioned by the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.
