Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (Oct. 17, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi earned his sixth top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last Saturday when he made his debut at Terre Haute Action Track.

Scelzi and car owner Bernie Stuebgen kicked off the weekend at the half-mile oval in Terre Haute, Ind., by qualifying third quickest out of 32 drivers on Saturday. Scelzi then won a heat race to advance into the dash.

“We qualified good and won the heat race, but then we drew the No. 8 in the dash draw so that was bad,” he said. “At a place like that with so much speed and how flat it is, you have to make speed under guys. There isn’t anything to run up against so it’s tough to pass a lot of cars.”

Scelzi placed seventh in the dash before capturing a ninth-place result in the A Main. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/bVSFyLQUfGw.

The team took momentum from the strong run into Eldora Speedway on Sunday during the Last Call for Them All. Scelzi set quick time during qualifying out of the 40 drivers and he was only seven hundredths of a second off the track record. That lined him up on the pole of a heat race.

“We didn’t take off well and two guys got by us right away so we didn’t make the dash,” he said after finishing third, which was one position shy of advancing into the dash.

Scelzi lined up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event at the high-banked, half-mile track.

“I tried the bottom too long,” he said. “I fell to 14th before I got going about a third of the way through. The cushion was the fastest way around the track. Running the fence is something I hadn’t done at Eldora. It’s pretty unique so it was good to get that experience. I thought I did a decent job.”

Scelzi recorded a 14th-place result. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/Ur3C1zjaCGY.

Scelzi returns home to California to compete in the 25th annual Trophy Cup this Thursday through Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. He will pilot a family car during the marquee event.

“I feel like I’ve been competitive every time we’ve run it,” he said. “Hopefully we can keep running well. You get two shots at a prelim night during the Trophy Cup. Ideally you want to have a good night on Thursday, but you do get another chance on Friday. It’s a different format and I haven’t ran a lot of 360 stuff this year, but it will be good to get back to Tulare.”
