Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi’s return to racing yielded a pair of podium finishes last weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway, which showcased more than 50 drivers during the Fall Nationals.

Scelzi, who had been sidelined for approximately a month because of a fracture in his leg, produced a third-place run on Friday before charging from 21st to second on Saturday at the quarter-mile oval.

“I’d give it an A minus,” he said. “We were really fast and I think I raced well. To come back after sitting out a month, I think it was a pretty good return. My timing was a little off the first night. By the end of Saturday night I felt like I was back to 100 percent.”

The weekend began on Friday with Scelzi qualifying fifth quickest in his group. He then maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race to advance into the dash. Unfortunately, he was involved in a crash that relegated him to an eighth-place finish. That lined Scelzi and his family owned team up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I worked around the top for the majority of the race,” he said. “Sean Becker got by me on the bottom so I moved down there and followed him up to fourth. He had a bad restart and I got back by him and into third. We were close to first and second at the end of the race, but just not close enough to capitalize.”

Scelzi’s third-place finish was his 15th top five of the season. Here is a link to watch the feature:https://youtu.be/THU2N43sUy0.

The weekend concluded on Saturday with Scelzi timing in 13th quickest in his group. He gained a position to finish sixth in a heat race before winning the B Main garner a transfer into the back of the main event.

“With it being 40 laps I knew I needed to pace myself,” he said. “The first 20 laps I rode around and got to 10thor 11th. The final 20 laps I was more aggressive. I think we had saved more tire than the others. The first 10 laps the track had a little moisture and then it went really slick. I wasn’t spinning the tires once it was like that. As I started to turn it on everyone else was floundering. We were about a half a second faster in those last laps and made it close for the win at the end.”

Scelzi continued gaining positions and had advanced into the runner-up position by the final lap. He closed in on the leader, but came up only a couple of tenths of a second shy of earning the victory. Here is a link to watch the race: https://youtu.be/htgcmMdc-uw.

“We were nose to tail coming off turn four,” he said. “I was definitely happy with the way we came back.”

Scelzi plans to race this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., and Saturday at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif., with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.
