Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (Oct. 5, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi had a breakout performance last weekend that even surprised himself.

Scelzi capped the Fearsome 410 Finale, which ended the inaugural FVP National Sprint League season, with a podium finish at I-80 Speedway during his debut in the Midwest with George Lasoski.

scelzi-powers-to-podium-finish-during-debut-with-national-sprint-league-at-i-80“I was so surprised with how everything went,” he said. “Jumping in a car I had sat in for five minutes before we went to the track, it was completely different than anything I’d driven. In the first hot-lap session I felt so far off the pace. Then we qualified so strong. We made small changes to the car all night.”

Scelzi opened the doubleheader at the high-banked track on Friday by qualifying ninth quickest out of 29 competitors. He then finished where he started – fourth – on the fast track, which ranked him 10th in overall points and lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

“We got up to fifth and toward the end of the race we were racing hard with a couple of cars,” he said. “I ended up running out of room. I got chopped in turns one and two and lost the air on my nose. We finished eighth, which to me was an absolute win.”

Scelzi’s eighth-place result marked his 27th top 10 of the season. It also gave him a boost of confidence returning to I-80 Speedway on Saturday.

“On the second night I felt way more comfortable,” he said. “One thing I learned in the main on Friday was about the air. I would have to say that’s the biggest thing I learned. It was so different on a big, fast track like I-80.”

Scelzi started Saturday’s event by timing in eighth quickest out of 28 during qualifying. He then picked up a position to finish third in a heat race, which earned enough points to lock into the feature redraw. Scelzi pulled the No. 5 during the random draw to line up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“We made more changes to the car to get me more comfortable,” he said. “In the main the track was extremely slick and wide. I worked the bottom in the beginning and I was able to work the middle. Eventually it worked up to the fence like Tulare does. I felt so comfortable in the car. I knew I had to save my tires and I may have saved them too long. With two laps to go I had a really good run on Steve Kinser. I slid him and got too excited and ‘The King’ got back around me so I finished third. It was just an awesome weekend.”

Scelzi’s third-place finish was his 16th top five of the season.

“I really want to thank George Lasoski for the opportunity as well as Danny Lasoski and Guy Forbrook for their support,” he said. “It was a great weekend. I met a lot of awesome people and I can’t wait to go back to the Midwest.”

Scelzi will return to competition in his Roth Motorsports backed family owned sprint car this weekend with races on Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., for the King of Kings Wings 360s and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.
