Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi loves racing at Stockton Dirt Track and last Saturday was a great indicator why.

Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports supported team won the Sprint Car Challenge Tour portion of the Tribute to Gary Patterson event and was in contention to capture the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series main event as well until a late-race crash.

“I was extremely happy with how everything went,” he said. “To be second and third quickest in qualifying and make the dashes, let alone win the dashes in both classes, was huge. That was big. I think it put an exclamation point on how fast we’ve been. It was an all around good night.”

Scelzi had nearly mirror performances in both classes. He qualified third quickest, advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race and won the dash from the pole position in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour division. That gave him the pole for the 35-lap A Main.

“I wasn’t getting the starts I needed to be getting in the main event,” he said. “I just couldn’t get going. We lost the lead on the initial start, but I ran Cory (Eliason) down and passed him in traffic. Unfortunately, a yellow came out and we went back behind him for the restart. Within two or three laps we were over him again. We were passing him on the inside of turns three and four when something broke on his car. I think there was about 15 laps to go then and we went unchallenged the rest of the way.

“That was a great feeling to know we could knock off another win. We’ve been so close the two months we’ve been at home. When you finally have a night go your way and you can knock off a big win like that with so many good cars there is huge. It’s great to be able to end the season that way.”

The triumph paid $5,000 plus Scelzi added $1,000 for winning the dash. Here is a link to watch the main event:https://youtu.be/kWMGDBJYVLE.

The team was eager to duplicate the success in King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series competition. Scelzi timed in second quickest in qualifying, placed third in a heat race and won the dash from the pole position. Scelzi started the main event on the inside of the front row for the second time that night.

“It went really similar as Cory won the start,” he said. “We chased him down and were racing him for the lead. A yellow came out and I had a bad restart. We fell to third and then to fourth. However, with a couple of laps to go Cory, Tim Kaeding, Kyle Hirst and I were bumper to bumper in traffic. I split two lapped cars. The guy on the outside turned down and his left front tire clipped my right rear and off we went.”

Scelzi was in contention for the win when the late-race contact led him to flipping. He was unable to resume the race and was credited with a 12th-place finish. Here is a link to watch the A Main:https://youtu.be/d6az9HHdATM.

Scelzi has one remaining event on tap this season. He will drive for Van Lare Racing Nov. 24-25 at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., for the Copper Classic with the ASCS Southwest Region.
